I'd like to see prankster for sub seed/spore bullshit.

They could significantly improve its bulk, especially special defense, I get pissed when I switch parasect in for water attacks and just get ice beamed instead.

Strength sap would be nice, especially with prankster if it is compatible.

It still wouldn't be OU, but it would be a viable way to stall on a lot of mons.

Bug grass is an atrocious type combination; Dry Skin only makes it worse. Can't buff Parasect without going all out on its defensive stats and even then, it may get outclassed by other bulkier Pokemon like Tangrowth. A Mega Stone may solve the issue, but who the fuck would want to waste a Mega Stone on Parasect?

Parasect is a pretty fun pokemon to use, Ive used a set with Spore/Leech Seed/Leech Life/Swords Dance, Max Sp. Def/Attack, and Focus Sash before, was pretty fun to use. Its mostly it's many weaknesses and speed that make it so shitty

Maybe 90/95/85/95/105/30 or something so it could use its (albeit small) special moves and tank a lot more hits. GigaLeech would be fun to see.

Spore Guard sounds nice. It could half damage from super effective hits, effectively giving it 2 weaknesseses and 5 good resistances.

A bug/ghost mega Parasect with a more of a zombie or ghost theme could work. Destiny Bond, Shadow Sneak, a ghost-ate ability.... maybe.

But since Parasect is dead. And the mushroom is the actual Pokemon, why not have grass/ghost instead? It has the same amount weaknesses and resistances. While also justifying it's reason to have spore.

I was going to say give it an ability that inversed its weaknesses/resistances, but it has quite a few more resistances than I remember it having and would be suspectible to 4 times Earthquake. Maybe give it a Parasite ability that acts sort of like Memento on death, either lowering certain stats or forcing sleep on the opponent, letting you set up with another mon. We've seen that Game Freak is fine with changing abilities for mons between Gens, so giving it some new ability wouldn't be too farfetched.

Otherwise, stats need an obvious boost. 405 is a really shit BST, so perhaps making it bulkier could at least make it better in casual play.

Fungi would still be weak to fire/ ice. And they are found within forests. There's no other need to create a new fungi type because it'll have extremely similar battle proterties to grass. Other type fits fungi better in Pokemon than grass.

What other type fits better for mushrooms? Poison? Not all fungi are poisonous. Bug? Bugs are animals, not fungi. Fairy? Fungi aren't magical are small cute pink things. There's a reason grass types aren't plant type. (Even in Japanese they are called grass). It's meant to include both the plant and fungi family. Fungi may be related be more related to fauna, but it looks and acts more like plants.

So? Other spore users like Amoongus and Breloom are infinitely better. Hell, fucking Shiinotic is better than it. It has a better typing, and one of the best recovery moves in the game.

First it needs a stat boost badly. I don't know why it didn't get a buff in gen 6 or 7.

I'd say a Masquerain-tier buff:
HP 60
ATK 95
DEF 80->100
SpA 60
SpD 80->100
SPE 30
BST 405->445

That puts its BST around Fearow/Arbok level.

Maybe then it could have marginally better success at its Gen 5 rain subseed set. Sadly there's no persistent weather, but leftovers + leech seed + dry skin is still kind of fun.

It may be broken in any other pokémon, but on this guy it's ok.
There's many hipsters that always try to use it over Amoongus in VGC so this would give it a better reason to do so.

Either give him a evolution or a substantial buff of at least +40 stats. Something like +20 to Hp and +10 to both defenses, so it can be an ok wall for anything that doesn't carry Fire and Flying moves.

Should also get better coverage and something like Sucker Punch and a new Bug or Grass priority move to help its low speed.
Giving it Strenght Sap would improve it a lot as well, but Breelom and Amoongus should not get it.

To further increase its viability in doubles, simply introduce a new ability that's behaves like the Fire version of Storm Drain/Lightning Rod and give it to a decent mon that pairs well with Parasect, ideally something fast and frail that hits hard so that Parasect can spam Rage Powder to provide cover while not giving a shit about Fire moves.

I never said it would become OU/UU levels of good, just much better.

Amoongus would still be bulkier because of its much higher HP. Also Grass/Poison is an infinitely better typing than Grass/Bug. It also has regenerator.

Amoonguss doesn't have double Ground resistance and it's weak to Psychic moves, Parasect could enter on Earthquakes unharmed and retaliate with priority moves.
Also higher defenses DO provide better bulk than equally higher hp as long there's no percentage based recovery involved.
