We can all agree that still frames of the SM anime look like total trash, but in motion, its bursting with tons of fluidity and personality that the stilted, slower, cardboard animation of the previous seasons lacked. I would actually say season 1 had a BIT of personality by comparison, but afterwards everything felt like by-the-numbers mass produced garbage. Those samey, neutral expressions and poses they always used were safe and easy to digest, but they weren't necessarily "good."
SM's style is really loose, to the point it often goes off model and looks ugly, but in the end its alot more fun to watch, and I praise them for taking the risk to try and do something a little different with the art. The first 3 episodes especially were excellent and it breathed new life into a frankly stagnating anime and series.
That being said, the writing is still formulaic drivel and all the personality the island characters had in the games seems to have been watered down to be easy to digest, but this is besides the point.
