Not really, animated cutscenes are a relic of a bygone era when hardware lacked processing and graphical power but had media storage room to spare.
Nowdays you can convincingly animate things in-engine.

But I don't want them to continue in this direction. Pokemon needs less cutscenes and more player-driven freedom.

pokemon becomes uglier and uglier, and I love anime, but this looks terrible, sameface and chipmunk syndrom is real.

I wish pokemon would look like a mix of origins and BW2 animation
