We now live in an AU where Black and White are the successful soft reboots GF was hoping for, selling upwards of 25 million units. What does the series look like 7 years later?

Dude, they were pretty damn successful. They sold 15 million copies (about as much as Ruby/Sapphire and slightly less than Diamond/Pearl), even though they were the *fourth* main series Pokémon release for the DS (after DP, Pl, HGSS) and didn't have any major new features to advertise. All in all, I doubt Gamefreak sees B/W as anything other than a major success.

Gen V pandering everywhere.
When the Switch games release, they're actually sequels to both Black 2/White 2 and Red/Green. You start off in Unova, beat the league, fight Team Plasma/Rocket, but don't fight their leader. Find out they're teaming up with Rocket in Kanto, and you go there to fight them off. At this point you can travel between Unova and Kanto in any port city. While there you decide to challenge the Indigo Plateau, beat the gyms in a style more linear than HGSS post-game so that they can maintain a smooth plot. Beat both Team Rocket and Team Plasma before the Indigo League, challenge it, and you're now the champion of two regions.

I knew someone would reply with this. I never said that they weren't successful. This thread was about what would happen if they were the 2nd most successful in the series, with 25 million units, thus being an extremely successful soft reboot. You're so quick to try and be right that you missed the entire point of the thread.

How? XY does a lot of stuff the opposite way BW would, and SM is like a mix between them, and arguably a bad one.

Intentionally or not, you framed your question as "what if BW were successful," which obviously suggests that they were a failure. You say that's not what you meant, and I accept that, but don't blame me because your OP was worded imprecisely.

That being said, I do know that this side discussion isn't what you intended the thread to be about, so I'll stop here. But I maintain that if I missed the point, it's because you didn't make it well.

I'd like to think they continue the path of making only new mons available during the main story, and doing their best not to reference older material.

Of course that's not what I think they'd have done, and instead just do what they've been doing, except with both Gen 1 and 5 pandering, and even more story focused because that's what Black White did.
