But it didn't. Charizard was Fire/Flying with no Flying attacks until Yellow.

Charmander was my favourite, but by far Bulbasaur was the most useful.

Only reason not to pick him is because Psychic types were obscenely powerful gen 1, but he's otherwise the best starter.

Competitive wise bulbasuar has been the best for years. Fav wise as far as one pokemon I like bulbasaur and squitle the same. However for a while line bulbasaur is easily my number 1.
