>>33465293>>33465318Just because other RPGs bombard you with scripted dialogue sequences and cutscenes to tell a story doesn't make it good design. Furthermore there are plenty of other RPGs that don't rely on those devices to tell a story, allowing you to explore for yourself for more details if you wish.
The problem with cutscenes and scripted events in Pokemon, as well as any RPG that uses them to a great extent, is that it does nothing but take you out of the gameplay and, big surprise, games are played for the gameplay. Using cutscenes and such is a cheap, lazy way out for GF to make it seem as if the main game isn't shallow as all fuck if all it has going for it is the story.
Pokemon in the earlier gens were a lot less story heavy and actually allowed for exploration which, you know, is actual gameplay, compared to being stopped every five minutes so NPCs can tell you arbitrary nonsense for the entirety of the game. It's incredibly obvious that story, and the way GF is implementing it, does nothing but hurt the gameplay, especially when they can't write for shit either.
