-Pokemon should have an on-screen presence. Just do away with random encounters. Make them formless blobs (a la Zelda 2) if you have to if you want the encounter to reveal all but random encounters are dumb. Repels are still a thing though.
-Character customization runs a bit deeper. Your character's age can range from 11 to 19. Height can be adjusted to your preference as well.
-Ride Pokemon no longer require that gay ass suit. Incidentally, Ride Pokemon can now be categorized by attribute rather than just function (i.e. Rapidash and Gogoat are faster than Tauros but can't break rocks. Golurk can walk on pointed stones but can't dash. Starmie turns better than Lapras but speed is harder to control, etc.)
-Assist Pokemon (PokeHelper?). Think Pokemon functioning as key items to help you progress areas. Muk can detoxify hazardous areas, Magcargo can melt icy walls, Excadrill can tunnel through certain rocks, Shedinja can function as a ghost detector, etc.
-Pokestar Studios is back. Now more cutscene-y than ever.
