>>33487386There's barely any reference to darkness. Here are all the Dark-type moves that refer to "dark", "night", or "black".
Night Slash ("Tsujigiri" means to kill a random passerby to test out a new sword, usually at night but not always)
Dark Void (Dark Hole)
Night Daze (Night Burst)
Black Hole Eclipse
Malicious Moonsault (Hyper Dark Crusher)
There's DDラリアト (Darkest Lariat), but I have no idea what the DD stands for. The first Dark moves to refer to any actual darkness or night were in Generation IV. Literally every other move is named after underhandedness or unfair attacks. Out of 39 Dark-type moves, only four explicitly refer to something actually dark, one only refers to night (and not even by name, only by association), and one is vague.
The Dark-type is meant to be seen as the Evil-type, and that's meant to be seen as underhanded, malicious, unfair, cruel, scheming, and taking advantage of unsuspecting opponents. It's not meant to embody actual darkness.
