Its clear that the state exerts great power over science by determining what research gets funding. not to mention the fact that all research needs to meet certain ethical guidelines which are determined by the dominant political forces in the society the research takes place in.

There are specific criteria that something needs to meet in order for something to be considered a mental illness. Homosexuality met those criteria while the vote was made but the vote ignored that and just changed the status of it out of a mental illness.
