Those are some of the best starters. 5th gen falls off a little bit with emboar and samurott but still.

As much as I shit on gen 2 games and pokemon, the starters are among some of the exceptions, though mainly in regards to Quilava, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr
Gen 5 is the opposite end, where I like the early forms but the only fully evolved one I like is Serperior, despite loving gen 5 as a whole.

You can start by getting better taste. Only 2/3 Johto starters are shit and gen 5 was the first time all the starters were good

Not him but Emboar and Serperior are fine in terms of design, it's their boring typing that hurts them. Samurott has the same problem but the design is also pretty weak.
