Can anyone explain the whole boxing starter thing? Do people do it when they don't like any of the starters, or do they feel the starter is in some way cheap? Why is it so common? I'm talking early-game here, late-game I can see it making more sense.

I box my starter mostly because im disgusted by the overrated nature of them, i mean it's a starter. Otherwise it's simply BORING to use the same thing all over again, no to mention the vomit inducing design of the final evos which probably limit you to 2/3 starters most of the newer gens.

I only box them in subsequent playthroughs after I've used all three because I like to always be using new Pokemon.

I hatched a shiny treecko recently, so probably that. Doesn't hurt that I also like the treecko line more than all the gen 6 and 7 starters combined.

Personally I used Rowlet in SM, and I won't be caught dead ever using an Incineroar or Primarina. No point in repeating pokémon, specially because I didn't get particularly fond of Decidueye anyway
