So back in early 2000 when pokemon crystal came out I wanted to get a complete pokedex and that meant getting a sunstone from the Bug Catching contest.

I walk in the taller grass and a Kakuna pops up. It was like level 13 or something and I missed the shiny animation so it was a little hard to tell whether or not it was shiny since I've never seen a shiny one before. So I looked it up and surely it was shiny. Caught it just in case and had a feeling that a shiny mon would automatically ensure victory in the contest.

I exit and wait for the results.
3rd place Venonat. Alright so at least I'm not thrid.
2nd place...Kakuna. Well shit
1st place...Weedle...motherfucking preevolved Weedle.
So I grab my everstone and leave. Trained the bastard to a level 50 Beedrill cause why not.

I didn't have a Master Ball on this game. I'm making preparations now to go back. I know, I'm stupid. What pisses me off is that I had 2 Balls shake thrice then break.

I encountered a shiny Budew while with Cheryl in Platinum last month and her Chansey killed it with a critical Egg Bomb.

When I first discovered VBA had a built-in gameshark and was playing with the shiny code I stumbled upon a Shiny Tentacool while the code was off. I soon realized that this was an actual shiny Tentacool and caught it successfully. The failure came when I absent-mindedly no-clipped off the edge of the map and crashed the game, having not saved so much as a save-state since encountering the Tentacool. I encountered her again on my Silver cartridge some time later, so I got her back, but losing the first was still a huge failure on my part.

Dude, if you're going to take the time to hunt for a shiny at least come prepared, make sure you have a mon with thunder wave, and a mon with bestow,fling+ Leppard berry so it doesn't kill itself to struggle, and a shit ton of full restores/ hyper postions.
