It's pretty much a given that Gen VIII is going to add at least 2+ new typings, right?

Considering the Switch is lightyears and lightyears more powerful than the 3DS. They have no choice but inject the Pokemon game with steroids now? I'm talking about 150+ new Pokemon and 2+ new types.

Also, safe to assume Masuda has been working on this game the last couple of years while Ohmori was working on Sun and Moon.

Nah. Expect another 60~80 new pokemon, maybe 100 since it's the first console mainline game. Unless GF has help brought in from nintendo or started it near the relase of SM, it may be rushed.

There is literally no reason to add any new types.
All they have to do is make all those poison and steel TMs learnable by most things in the same way that basically everything learns fighting and dark moves.

They'll release the first set of games with only 30-40 Pokemon, and then the next will have the remaining 35-50.
USUM is just to test the waters to see how OK people are with them basically locking portions of a generation's Pokedex behind Third Versions.

I can't wait to see what the graphical quality is going to be. Pokemon games have been aesthetically hovering between the 5th-6th generation, at best. It's hard to imagine they're going to make it look as good as, say, Mario Odyssey, especially considering how much that would blow the budget. But considering how successful SuMo were, maybe they're prepared to make a high budget Pokemon for once?

Previous Pokemon games haven't had to compete against other games though. They've basically been (mostly) on par with other games on that system

Let me rephrase. Pokemon games on GBC looked like other GBC games. Pokemon games on GBA looked like other GBA games. And so on.

But the suggestion that Switch Pokemon will just be 3DS Pokemon at a higher resolution greatly differs from that paradigm

Doubt it. Fairy-type has a purpose, there doesn't really need to be any more types added. And it's dumb to assume the games will be better because the hardware they're on is better. Why would that somehow lead to more Pokemon and more types? If anything it would just mean graphical upgrades.

The gen 6+ models set a standard for the poly count of future models; the pokémon models themselves are pretty high poly. It will be similar to SuMo but with higher resolution textures and higher poly character models/overworld assets.

For starters there's no way they care about competing with themselves. And since Pokken is a completely different kind of game that allows for resources to go towards the graphics it doesn't really make sense that it would be the "standard" for what a Pokemon game on Switch could look like. If you think the Pokemon in Gen 8 are gonna look anything like the Pokemon in Pokken do then you're retarded. The assets required to make a fighting game are way less than they are to make an RPG like all of the mainline Pokemon games.

This is not gen 1 on the original gameboy anymore where the hardware limited the content.

They will add new features as they always do but don't expect too much, don't forget that Pokemon games sell great without real improvements for years now. Almost everyone with a switch will buy it and then you always have the people that will buy a switch just because there is a new Pokemon game for it no matter how good it is

I would rather have a genwunner wet dream: zelda botw style kanto region fully explorable map where you see pokemon in the wild before you encounter them and have to sneak up and stuff, or more aggressive pokemon attack you, trainers randomly walk around and battle you (decide your own rival with some random npc who gets stronger as the game goes on) etc... make it just gen one (maybe gen 2 since the maps connect) but basically make it appeal to normies and make it doable this way. no chance at 700+ pokemon working in this kind of game and if you make it a new region then a good chunk of pokemon are new ones people might hate and the game doesnt even need the pokemon title if you re changing it up this much.

basically the game you pretended you were playing when you had the original gameboy games while you watched the anime and looked at the art on the pokemon cards and market it as such.

either that or mmorpg pokemon. I can't see just doing the next gen on switch being anything but a disappointment and solidify that pokemon is getting stale and its big jump to a main line console did nothing impressive. counter that with "sun and moon" sold well! and i'll raise you however bad ultra is about to do, legit everyone ive talked to is not excited and basically skipping it. they need to do something fresh for the switch.
