>>33568771>character memeMaybe character isnt the right word. I think it has to do with there's less imagination involved with 3d models. When it's a sprite I can imagine all sorts of things like how it moves / attacks whatever. The 3d models eliminate some of the room for imagination and thus some of the fun I have.
I actually feel a large part of why I haven't been super keen on gen 7 is that there isn't enough room for imagination. I've always seen pokemon, and older turnbased rpg's in general, just as fuel for long sessions of imagining adventures and such. My tendency to self insert in pokemon is born from this.
Actually I hold this attitude towards modern games in general. There just isn't enough room for me to imagine anymore. There's always a clear objective, a clear representation of the game world / charcters, and a nice big arrow pointing the the direction I need to go.
