Is there a reason why GF changed their HA? It's not like they were overpowered or anything, they just gained an immunity against a type that they already resisted.

Hard to say if they'd be overpowered since they weren't available. Now that they'd be available GF probably took that precautionary measure in case. Maybe they only wanted to avoid giving an immunity to 1 or 2 of them but made the change full scale to keep them equal. I can imagine Water Absorb Suicune being a huge pain in the ass since it's already annoying to take down, but being able to heal up from Water moves would be another level of cancer to deal with.

I don't think it was to nerf them per se, but in general I feel like Game Freak is trying to make Pokémon more distinct from each other - with their original HAs they were just Vaporeon/Flareon/Jolteon with better stats and better movepools, almost totally covering their uses. It's why we're seen so few Swift Swim, Water Absorb and Chlorophyll added in the last two gens - they're oversaturated.

Wrong. Inner Focus almost always guarantees Tailwind against Fake Out. Water Absorb will just Make Rain Great Again which is absolute cancer.

In last years VGC. We have no idea what next year's rules will be, and nothing's stopping them from releasing the HA beasts as a Gen VII event.

ubers. giving huge power to anything with over 100 base attack is already a gamble, and they usually have some sort of opportunity cost, i.e slow / takes a mega slot. giving huge power to something with its item slot available and one of the strongest priority moves in the game + a stab attack that is nearly impossible to switch into is a sure recipe for brokenness

Only the event version from several years ago has Extreme Speed. That one has Pressure. Huge Power Enteis wouldn't have Extreme Speed since it's only an event move.
