As a result of transferring every single move and ability from the main series games to a rougelike format, plenty of their effects have either been changed drastically, or kept without being properly rebalanced. A good example of this would be Attract from PMD: Rescue Team. These games have no genders set for Pokemon, yet keep the effect of infatuating opponents. In fact, it takes things a step further and prevents your opponent from attacking at all. A savvy player would use this to their advantage and give their hero the move to easily incapacitate any boss, since almost every Pokemon can learn the move. Another example would be the ability Unburden. In the main games, Unburden takes effect when the Pokemon's item has been consumed or otherwise discarded. In PMD, this ability was changed so that if the user isn't holding onto any item, they will be able to attack twice in one turn. IQ Skills and Gummis are also a very poor design choice, as the games give you Gummis in many different locations. In Rescue Team and Explorers of Sky, every Gummi consumed at a Friend Area and Spinda's Cafe gives a Pokemon extra stat bonuses along with the usual IQ boost. By the time you reach the midway point (around Amp Plains), your hero's stats would be high enough to tank most opponents' hits with ease, and one-shot most non-boss enemies. In Explorers, IQ skills are given to certain Pokemon, rather than being a shared list. This means that certain Pokemons have far more useful sets than others, like ones that can show the entire map and where the stairs are located, compared to ones that have their ultimate skill as the Monster House avoider.
The balancing is so poor that you could very well beat Zero Isle using broken Pokemon like Drifblim.
