There are three separate timelines:
RBY -> GSC
RSE = FRLG -> DPPt = HGSS -> BW -> BW2
ORAS -> XY -> SM

Although even if a game hasn't been remade in a particular timeline, it's safe to assume that the events of that game also happened in the other timelines. For example, the events of RBY/FRLG also happened in the megaverse, which is why Red and Blue appear in the Battle Tree.

You need to take things with a pinch of salt. Game Freak aren't very good at creating a consistent world and some of the game mechanics aren't meant to be literal (like how you could store 98 more Pokeballs but you couldn't pick up another item if your bag was "full).

Yeah, it's obvious they hadn't really thought of moving XY into its own universe until ORAS (or at the very least, pretty late in XY's production), so it's kind of in an odd limbo between the old timeline and the new one.

Nope, ORAS didn't contradict Mega Lucario. Mega Lucario is the first Mega Evolution by the usual Trainer + Pokemon while Mega Rayquaza is the first in general.

That was originally the case (or rather the remakes replaced the originals in the one timeline). But with ORAS they decided to push the whole multiverse thing and confirmed that a universe without mega-evolution existed (i.e. the older timelines). So now it's canon that three separate timelines exist.

Fuck Zinnia and her explicitly referencing alternate realities. We didn't need this complicated shit, we could have just assumed there was one timeline and newer remakes took precedence over older iterations. There is nothing strange about Megas and fairy typing simply being a late discovery.

Easiest way for me to describe it

OG universe: RBYGSC (since before VC releases they couldn't connect with other gens), 251 Pokémon, 17 types
Regular Universe: every game from gen 3 to XY. Megas only exist in Kalos, Fairy type is new. Alola exists too but the story wouldn't be exactly the same since a few Megas don't exist.
Mega Universe: based around ORAS. Every gen still exists and the stories all play out the same but with potential Mega Evos and fairy types since ORAS makes it seem like both have existed forever.

In that specific example, wind implies flying, but that wouldn't work for moonblast or play rough. Charm and Sweet Kiss and shit were also normal moves before fairy so that seems to be the simplest answer.

You're reading waaaay too much into ORAS' dialogue. Basically GF didn't one to make one version canon, so they said they're all canon in different universes, you just choose the one you want. Which has always been the case in a way - I play with a girl, you play with a boy. In one universe you encounter Zekrom, in the other Reshiram. They probably did this because unlike FRLG and HGSS which was only an improved version of gens I and II, ORAS changed a lot of shit from RSE. Look how the tweet mixes versions.

Kanto = Hoenn -> Johto = Sinnoh -> Unova 1 -> Unova 2 = Kalos -> Alola

That order is the same for EVERY universe. Combine the versions you want and make the timeline. Pokémon has always been about your experience of you as a Trainer and your team after all.

There's AT LEAST 10 years, sure, but definitely not exactly 10 years. We know Looker washed up in Hoenn with no memories in ORAS, and we don't have any reason to believe that Anabel appeared in the mega universe exactly when ORAS took place. Looker found her when he was working in the international police, so I think it's fair to assume there was at least a couple years between ORAS and Anabel's first appearance in the mega universe.

Unless you are saying BW does happen at the same time Johto/Sinnoh does, which we already know they don't. Yes but the differences don't necessarily come up for narrative purposes since the games are self contained. ORAS is the first and only time they flat out show self-awareness to parallel earths/timelines. It was a pointless move since they don't seem to have any intend on expanding upon it, even with shit like Ultra Space coming into focus.

The Zelda timeline is confusing because they never intended for there to be any continuity between the games anyway, outside of obvious ones like MM being a sequel to OoT, WW having spinoffs that take place in the same world and ALBW being a distant sequel to ALTTP.

Each entry is kind of its own thing. The idea of a timeline is kind of like putting a puzzle together with pieces that don't quite fit right.
