Not because le baby's first game, but because it genuinely is a great game for children to learn about video games, creates an immersive world to explore and create wonder, encourages social interaction and playground shenanigans, creates bonds with their first pokemon and the pokemon they catch and raise, builds friendships and teaches very basic but important lessons about the world and manners and how to be a decentish person. And less important, but it's genuinely cool to see a game that boys and girls enjoy equally, and the Gym Leader/E4/Champion/NPC gender ratio is nearly 50/50, which is unheard of in basically any other video game franchise.
I've seen more good be done for kids via pokemon than any other video game ever, and it's a genuinely good game franchise. For adults, it's a great franchise, but for kids, it's among, if not THE best video game series
