Maybe I'm being too naïve, but I still hope that GF will be able to make games like the
PT->HGSS>BW>BW2 era. I am not a hater of the 3DS games, but they are not as good as the DS era (except DP).
Even if you don't like Gen 5, you have to admit it was pretty bold to make a main game with ONLY new Pokémon. I cannot fathom current GF doing that, specially since they've been pandering to Kanto since XY.
Sun and Moon was even worse, however, it was the 20th so it kinda made sense from a marketing strategy (also, Go hype), but in XY it was just retarded.
Gamefreak seems very afraid to take risks and innovate now, all the games play it safe, by the books, and when they do innovate (Trials instead of Gyms, Group of friends following you) it's not well done, and feels tacked on, not only that, the newer games feel rushed and unfinished, specially XY and SM (USUM is what SM should have been).
It's pretty clear that XY and maybe SM were not ready, and Nintendo pressured them to launch it as it was because the 3DS needed a main Pokémon game, so things like Zygarde just being there and having no bearing on the main plot, not having a post-game and the whole AZ thing being bare bones kinda make sense. It's also pretty weird that we only got XY as Kalos games, even though the anime had the whole Z saga, and Zygarde has no reason to be in SM, only as a small fetch quest.
If they ended the series in Gen VIII, I would not mind, better to go out as average than as trash, I would ratter they ended it soon rather than letting it become shittier and shittier, like Sonic the Hedgehog, who became a joke on the gaming community. But there is still hope that they will stop playing it safe and innovate, maybe making more amazing games, getting back on track, I still want to play one more great Pokémon game.
