Yeah, OP I also think it felt pretty misleading. Just like how they showed the protag having varying facial expressions in one trailer but it turned out that was the only time in the game their face changed.

maybe she was meant to be more like Gladion and only after that they decided to split the two as an afterthought, that's probably why Gladion has not much relevance in the story aside from bitching about his daddyissues
