every villainous team is full of retards, none of them are good when they all lose to children/teenagers. Most of their motivations are fucking stupid too, the one that's the least stupid is Ghetsis for at least trying to be underhanded about it.

Cheren just feels obnoxious for the first half of the game, and his realization about his whole complex with being the best feels really half-baked because he never reaches a real conclusion with it during BW and there's no background to explain where it came from.

Bianca was fine, but it's kinda funny that she talks about not being suited to battling when her team is actually better than Cheren's and later Hugh's.

Johto exploration is incredibly overrated. Yeah they at least have the decency to make the region nonlinear, but the exciting 'nooks and crannies' are just bland, empty caves with nothing of interest.

I never once romanticized exploration of the first game. The experience maybe, but that's an entirely different matter.

Some of the other evil team leaders had some form of backstory and motivation, ghestsis just said "fuck it im going to freeze the whole world"

Lysandre's sort of makes sense. Overpopulation threatens resources. Some eat while others starve, even in cases the former does little while the latter works themselves to death. Then you have the logistics about how and why life isn't exactly fair even though some insist it should be.

Condensing the world's population to ensure the remaining survivors can live in indulgence is a crazy plot, but it comes from a reasonable place.

I honestly think the basic details of Flare are pretty good, the issue is they never show or tell you Lysandre's experiences that drive him to his extreme, nor the scientists. With the grunts following him there's at least some stuff stated in obscure NPC text or implied by the situation itself.
