If $10 (or however much it is) is nothing to you, then sure it is worth it. If you hesitate at the expense, then no, save your money. Crystal will be on VC eventually anyway.

You can transfer your pokemon from GS directly to SM (and eventually USUM).
If you played HGSS you have to transfer them to BW and then, transfer to pokebank to SM.
