Speaking as someone who pays for Pokebank, I do not see why a lot of the functionality could not be achieved offline. Particularly stuff like the transfer app for gen V games. Why not let people save mons to the SD card for transfer purposes, and if they want to pay for the online storage and functionality of the bank they can do? Sell the expanded functionality of the bank on its own merits, but there is no need to lock functionality behind a paywall to make a quick buck.
