There's actual evidence to support that at least some of the concepts for SM were rushed, though, read the GI interview.

Third versions should have stayed a thing of the past and I really only think they brought them "back" after abandoning them for two gens because of the rushed development.

aside from muh Frontier and a couple forms there's not really a huge gap in terms of features between DP and Pt, it's mostly performance and restyling

Remakes should have fully replaced third versions, they HAD the right idea going in Gen VI. People wanted Hoenn, not Z. Now people want Sinnoh, not USUM.

Third versions aren't viable or appealing in today's vidya industry, that's why there's significantly more complaining and whining about USUM than any other third version originally got. It was an outdated system that most thought GF had moved on from.

At least for Platinum we had to wait 4 years

The majority of people don't buy both game, and producing games (By that I mean producing cartridge for the game) actually costs a lot of money.
Whatever benefit they would make for making paired game wouldn't really be that much...
The obvious reason they did 2 versions for those game are because they made 2 forms based on the box legends, simple as that
