Arceus and co showing up to defend their dimension and kick some Ultra Beast ass would be a fun storyline.
The problem is knowing Game Freak they will completely disregard all of what they're vaguely building towards and do something totally different.
Its obvious that they like to just leave a bunch of vague references and plot threads around in case they want to pick up on any of them later, but only if its convenient for them. Gen 6 is proof that at the end of the day they just play things by ear and there is no internal document or even plan in someone's head that lays out everything they're going to do in the future.
