You don't have to, and certainly not anytime soon. And for all we know, the mainline Switch Pokemon title might also be on 3DS, or whatever the next DS thing is.

He can do whatever he wants. Game Freak should support older systems for as long as there's desire to play them. IMO both XY and SM should have been on the DS.

It's not a complete impossibility. Nintendo did it with Sm4sh. I think it will depend on how the Switch is doing in 2 years. And Pokemon fans are more than used to watered-down by this point.

I just feel like the first Switch game will be something original, or... maybe a Kanto remake. That could always happen.
I think it's fair to expect USUM won't be the last 3DS titles, and DP remakes are the most likely send-off.

Nintendo is putting Pokemon on the switch for one reason. Guaranteed sales switch sales. If they put it out in the 3DS they loose those sales. It's common business

Trust me USUM is the last Pokemon game on the 3DS. Game freak is focusing all its attention on the switch game right now, including hiring new members, working on DP remakes along side them would just mess up development on both sides.

This. They need a steady flow of big first party titles to keep their sales numbers high. The big Mario and Zelda games are already here so they need something of comparable size for 2018/2019, most likely Smash and Pokémon.

Because they have a big install base and can easily squeeze millions more out of it. A DP remake on 3DS could potentially be more successful than Pokemon Switch.

The only reason I bought a 3DS was pokemon. I'm not very good at video games, and even then Pokemon are the only ones I really enjoy aside from a bunch of old rpg's

If you bought a 3DS just for Pokémon then I don't see why you can't buy a Switch just for Pokémon. It's going to take a while until it's even released and by then the Switch will most likely be cheaper.

They did it with Smash because as popular as Smash was, it wasn't a WiiU seller.

Pokémon doesn't need to split its next games between Switch and the DS line as it'll be able to shift Switch units on its own.

I've been saying this since E3, With Kirby and Yoshi projected for early '18, MP4, Pokémon Switch coming and new Smash and AC to be announced, Nintendo are trying to have a similar release schedule for next year as they did for this.

Why are pokefags so casual/autistic? It's not the first time I see a Pokemon fan mention the only video game they play is Pokemon, and it usually only happens with Pokemon. I've never heard anyone say they only play Mario or only play Kirby. It's sad.

IMO Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, White, Black 2, White 2, X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon should have all been on the Gameboy.
