For Hau it seems it will be every time. They made a new intro for him to show that he doesn't throw his pokemon out of a pokeball when you fight.

If you noticed, Hau doesn't send out Torracat from its Pokeball, he moves his hand and Torracat shows it animation when the battle starts in the beginning of battle.

Holy shit Gamefreak is just doing this out of spite at this point. I literally wouldn't be surprised if the Battle Resort returned with a fully copy pasted Maison and a near complete model of the BF that said "Battle Frontier project almost complete!"

Yes, I just beat the game last night. Several plot important trainers have various Pokemon following them at times though this is mostly relegated to cutscenes. But more importantly the player has a following Pokemon, but talking to them just brings up Refresh. No more getting poked in the belly

Err, that's on the processor.

Also it isn't one model that will ruin the game's performance, the biggest problem on the overworld is the draw distance that's way too big for a RPG. Pic related is what kills your frames.

also someone explain me; if npc's can walk with their pokemon in the overworld [outside of cutscenes] then why we can't?

It's apperently more of a problem of pathfinding than performance, apparently that is difficult to do properly in 3D.

The closest they have ever done to that in Gen 6-7 is the forest in XY, but they were walking to points set by your progress through the forest instead of directly following you, but that was also in a tile based game.
