Is there really that much of a difference? Trials and gyms are the same things with different coats of paint and a few accessories.

Trials. Gyms are repetitive and bland with the exception of Gen 5 where they had actual strategies. Genuinely struggled with some lf the Totems like Wishiwashi, Lurantis, and Mimikyu

The Trials in SM are way too simple, But the Totem Battles are great.

I like the Trials better for what they are, having both a totem Pokemon and some Captains along the way.

I like the spread of the gyms, and the feeling of progression, which I somehow don't feel with the Trials. The hardest part about voting is that we've had six generations of Gyms to study, but only a single iteration of Trials. It'll be easier to give an in depth vote once more games come out with Trials. IF they do.

I think the trials in USUM will be better developed. Regardless, I think most players that have been playing Pokemon for years feel an attachment to gyms and are thus more reluctant to changes with the basic formula.

Personally I would have liked them to be less organized/domesticated. Like just go out in the wild and fight this random strong ass pokemon, solve some puzzles, etc etc. When there's guides standing around and lots of instructions it just seems kinda unimpressive. Like at least there was a sense of danger or exploration when you're going through the wilderness in the previous games, this one just seems like I'm on a guided tour and it's kinda dull.

1. Pokemons? reallly the fucking plural is Pokemon

2. Just because it becomes a Ganksquad doen't makes it better, It didn't worked for DaSII it doesn't works for SM

2. I don't know what's DaSII is and I Google it got nothing game related except sonic dash 2, also the Ganksquad makes it harder, You could sweep effortlessly with gym leaders they weren't much of a boss battle now Totem Pokemon on the other hand are indeed more challenging

Gyms were getting very stale by Gen VI, and were not remotely challenging unlike some of the totem bosses.

The Trials could use some work, but on a conceptual level I think they're great. Here solve this test of valor and then fight a cool boss Pokemon, whearas gyms were here go through this completely impractical fun house while fighting a dozen trainers with the same 3 pokemon.

I prefer the concept of trials, but I feel like a lot of the ones in SM were very barren. USUM seems to be doing a good job of cleaning that up, however, so hopefully they're far better now!

Trials are fun but I like the concept of gyms a bit more.

It would be better if we had gyms with puzzles that worked more like the trials, then battle the totem pokémon and once you beat it you get to fight the gym leader. But that's just my opinion and you are free to think differently if you want.

Yeah, that's what made them great. They felt like actual bosses instead of trainers who had slightly higher level Pokemon than usual.
