If you are bored of the starters, I wouldn´t pick chikorita, cyndaquil or totodile.

Mareep and zubat can be very usefull in gen2.

I would say Larvitar cause Tyranitar is rad and I'm a Rock-fag, but that would probably make an easy game easier.
Brobat is probably the best choice, Ampharos if you want a pure Gen 2 starter.

Anon, you get Tyranitar around level 55. Nothing wrong with a Lv 5 Larvitar and being cockblocked until level 30 for Pupitar.

Hoppip is a cute, would be a struggle to use maybe, but could a be a good status abuser lead/general annoyer and could carry cotton spore/stun spore and leech seed to soften up other mons.
