In SM he's a cloud of optimism while Nanu is a jaded pessimist who doesn't care about anything any more. In USUM it's the other way around. Hau is a cynical asshole and Nanu is a bright and bubbly optimist.

Since the new Lillie's artwork represent her during the endgame, I guess it's the same for Hau.
During the endgame you feel that he starts to be pissed about you always winning but hiding it behind a smiley face. He outright says things like "Seriously ? It's really frustrating you know ? I seriously tried my hardest you know ?" when you beat him before the league, also he looks kind of more serious when you fight it while defending your title (Different animation, and expressions), and finally when you beat him he says "It's hard to be strong enough to admit that you're weak you know ?"
He says "you know" a lot in the english version, no wonder people find him annoying

Its just a swap of SM designs
Lillie looked angry, Hau was happy
In reality Lillie was just shy but she always was a wet balnket. Hau was always happy

Now Lillie looks happy, Hau looks angry
Probably just means that Hau at some point will be worried about Lillie or Alola and thats all
