Anyone else miss baby Pokemon? Why are they such a wasted potential idea?

I never really liked them DESU. I'm too old to love 'cute' mons so the more 'tough' or 'intimidating' the more appealing they are to me, that's just an age thing I think.

I personally don't really see the point in them, they are just pointlesss dex filler. Why not just program a Pokémon to learn a certain move or encounter-able earlier in game? Making a new googly-eyed mon seems like too much work.

Pre-Evo/Evolutions haven't been a thing since Gen 4, don't expect them to come back.

Especially since they seem on never giving Kangaskhan, the one Pokémon that actually needs one, a baby form

If these are going to be a thing, they could at least design an in game contest or tournament of some kind solely for them

I never liked them. It's not even the design. I just don't get what's the point of giving these pokemon pre-evolutions. All of these pokemon except Snorlax would have benefited more from getting an evolution, not a useless pre-evolution.

Their main problem is that they are just a weaker form of an existing mon. In Gen II they made sense as a way to promote the breeding mechanics but in the modern era they're just dex fillers.

If they were to add new babies, they'd have to be low level versions of mons that only previously occurred at high level, even in their earliest form. Then you could at least use them earlier in the game.

Otherwise I think all anyone wants is more powerful evolved forms, or failing that, alternate formes or megas.

Design-wise, they're inoffensive, but they weren't too great gameplay-wise. I like Budew, Cleffa and Chingling in DPPt due to how they were naturally incorporated into the region as earlygame forms of Roselia, Clefairy and Chimecho. It was pretty annoying when ORAS didn't give Budew any wild encounters despite this being a feature two generations ago, nor did they add Azurill to Route 104 to give the player a chance to get the Marill line early on, like in Emerald.

Not all baby pokemon are cross-gen pre-evolutions, but most are. There may be exceptions like Riolu or Togepi where they were introduced in the same gen as their evolutions, but most of them are pre-evolutions for pokemon who didn't need them.

Most of the time they were pointless wastes of Dex slots. The only time they made any sense or served any significant purpose was when they linked two previously existing Pokemon to each other ala Tyrogue.

And most of them have either shit designs, or much better designs than their evolutions making you wish they always looked closer to the baby.
