Typing alone does not a Pokemon make.

Heck, NOTHING about a Pokemon alone is what makes a Pokemon good. It's only when stats, movepool, abilities, and typing are all TOGETHER that it makes sense. A Pokemon can have an amazing offensive type, but terrible stats, or terrible stats, but an amazing ability. It's impossible to determine how good a Pokemon is without taking into consideration everything simultaneously.

It suffers from the same problem as most Ice types, where it's slow and frail so its amazing offensive typing is completely wasted

It needs a Mega that lowers its defenses in favor of a 100 point speed boost plus SpAtk boost to make it good. Make it based on a pyroclastic flow. With its typing, any points in Defenses of thrown in the trash and it needs all the speed it can get.

There are 2 simple things GF can make to make Magcargo OU

1.- Gamefreak needs to change Magma Body so it makes it immune to Water moves and also burns on contact.
2.- Ban/heavily nerf Stealth Rock

Better idea for mega magcargo. Keep the stats roughly the same, with defense as the highest stat but better offenses and like +30 or +20 speed. Then change its ability to simple.

You're right actually, it is a good typing. Just not for something as slow as magcargo is. This would be good on something fast or at least "pretty fast with a scarf" speed that would like being able to switch in on all those resists and then force something out, which would be easy since its such a great offensive pairing. Right now it just gets fucked four ways from sunday against any given pokemon since the 4 types it is weak to are omnipresent.

Water, Rock, and Ground are extremely common, and the 13 year olds all stock their teams with fast fighting mons. Slow speed also means you can switch into it with little worries.

So it's an uphill battle.

Those stats are just horrible though. Fire/Rock is horrible defensively so you might as well go full offensive. GF has to lower its defenses and invest it fully in offenses so it can function in trick room, or redistribute its stats it so its above 100 speed and has decent offenses

Of course, it still has the problem of not having the best move diversity. All it can really do is some fire attack, Earth Power, and Solar Beam/Bloom Doom. If you want to elaborate, give it Guard Swap or Z-Memento instead of Solar Beam.

77 isn't slow for a tank. That's decent scarf tier. Everything between 61 (ttar) and 100 is workable if it has other things going for it. It isn't a writeoff.

Magcargo on the other hand has nothing going for it, its stupid slow even with a scarf or shell smash.
