Lets discuss cannon teams, I'll go first with Ethan/Gold.
>Typhlosion (Starter - Made cannon by official art, anime appearances (of Jimmy in the legend of thunder) and public opinion)
>Togetic/Togekiss (Rare egg - A pokemon every player hatches, also seen in some art along side gold)
>Sudowoodo (Path blocker - Made cannon in a similar way to Red's Snorlax, with it being a pokemon that is canonically encountered in the story)
>Red Gyarados (Caught at the lake of rage - Made cannon, again, in a similar way to to Red's Snorlax being a pokemon that is canonically encountered)
>Donphan (Blackthorn city - Made cannon by Gold's anime cameo where his Donphan battles Ash's Pikachu, also Donphan is a fan favourite)
>Electrode or Ampharos not quite sure, but no evidence for either aside from Electrode being a forced encounter in the story and Ampharos being a popular choice in play throughs.
