Steel is weak to fire because fire melts steel. If Pokemon were real, would using a fire type move on a steel type make the Pokemon itself melt? Would they still be alive or would they be dead?

No you dingus it would caused them to oveeheat, and would probably cause severe internail pain as its body grew hotter and hotter. It also depends on the fire move and the pokemon shooting it. At extremes it could probably cause a little bit of melting which would probably kill the pokemon. That would be a Charizard Y using Blast burn plus sunny day.

It would be a bit more painful than, say, a Water-type attack. There is no in-universe explanation for why Fire hits Steel super-effectively; we deduced that the logic is because it would melt it, but there is no evidence in the games or other media that supports this.

It's hard to say. I find it hard to believe that Steel Pokemon are actually made of metal, I feel like this would have given them a tremendous evolutionary edge over all other Pokemon regardless of the way types work. I could see the ones with "steel" appendages being entirely metal but the ones with "steel" bodies are probably just a steel skin or shell.

This. It's sort of like how Fighting is good against steel when you would break your fist if you punched a block of solid steel. It references how metal can be shaped.

Registeel and any Steel-type exclusive to the Mineral egg group would be literally made of metal. Maybe Celesteela and Solgaleo, too.
