Nostalgia, mostly. It's also much more challenging regardless of the fact that HGSS keeps the wonky level curve intact. Dealing with the retarded learnsets and limited TMs means you have to be a lot more practical than normal.

Hidden Abilities. That's the only reason to even buy them. Also transfering them is better than soft-reseting for Natures because Natures depend on the last two digits in their Exp. Points.

I don't just mean them having one use, I mean how certain moves just aren't in the game or are found all the way in Kanto. No Flamethrower, no Ice Beam, no Thunderbolt, no Psychic until Kanto, no Dream Eater until Kanto, etc.
