Who knows. It's an exception from the other stat-boosting Z-Moves already in that it's based on an attack move instead of a status move, and it's Eevee exclusive too.

It might be patched out in the future but it's likely intentional. If so Kommo-o's exclusive Z-Move will likely have the same properties.

Also not every Pokemon is meant to be used competitively. That's why only 20 Pokemon are good.

The worst part about Lurantis is that they made two physical Grass type Pokemon in the same generation, and one of them is head and shoulders above the other. There's no reason to use a Lurantis over Tsareena. Maybe if they gave it a secondary typing, or made it special attack oriented, there'd be a reason to use it.

actually five, if you count the dual typed dhelmise, bulu (who could be excluded because legendary) and decidueye. Even the one thing lurantis has going for it, defog, is outdone by the owl, anchor, and fruit, who all either get rapid spin or defog as well. To balance it out, they gave the poor thing contrary and 1 move to use with it that works off of lurantis's weaker offensive stat. What were they thinking.

Yeah I was mainly going off on just Tsareena since they're both the mono type, physical attackers. But I didn't even consider the other grass types and how they all outclass Lurantis just as much as Tsareena does. As somebody who loved its design since its reveal so much so that I put it on my team despite its flaws, I was pretty heartbroken how bad it was even in-game.

That said lurantis in a competitive setting is a most obvious example of programmers not knowing what the fuck they are doing. Can't pick between a physical attacker or a special attacker so just make the poor, pretty thing bad in either direction.

there is being amazing competitively and then there is being an absolute chore to try and use- shit moves and stats can't be saved by a single gimmick already better utlized by other mons- i feel like lurantis is a casualty of their shitty rushedness to get the shitheap that was Sun and Moon out the door- a reverse mantis orchid is really quite a clever concept but as is the case most often with Gamefreak they fuck up the execution, badly.

Also about the execution of the design, a Grass type pretending to look like a Bug type has no real advantage in pokemon world given that Bug covers no type Grass is weak to- except the notion that it hunts Bug types by pretending to be flower in which case kek, wtf does it hope to hit them with?
