Pokemon Black and White

Subjectively, someone might like BW more than BW2 or Gen VI. However, I feel like BW gets far more credit than they deserve, either because they're accidentally mixing up BW2's merits with BW, or because they're grouping both of them together. A lot of shortcomings the Gen VI games, specifically XY, had are shared with BW, however, many people find the latter to be a better game despite all this.

First, let's take a look at the content BW has to offer. Before beating the main game, there are a few things one can do. There is the Battle Subway, Battle Institute and the Pokemon Musical, all of which are unlocked upon reaching Nimbasa City. The Subway is functionally the same as the Towers from the past, and the Musical is a slightly touched up version of the dressup in Sinnoh's contests. Unlike Contests, however, you don't get any ribbons or major rewards for competing in them. In the postgame, the Pokemon transfer minigame becomes available.

Obviously, BW2 introduced plenty of new content for people to enjoy. Along with having all the content BW had, BW2 adds the Join Avenue, Pokestars Studio, difficulty settings, N's Pokemon, a true final boss battle with N, the PWT, Funfest missions, Hidden Grottoes, and the medal system.

To compare, XY has its own fair share of side content, albeit less than BW2. Super Training acts like XY's form of Contest/Pokeathlon content, being a minigame you can partake in. By completing these minigames perfectly, you are rewarded with medals and a ribbon, just like how contests rewarded you for performing well. Amie also has minigames, and allows you to get closer to your Pokemon. Trainer PR Videos are a bit closer to Musicals in that it's a cute side activity that allows you to show off customization in a video, in this case, Serena or Calem's outfits. In the postgame, the Friend Safari becomes available, along with the Battle Maison, functionally the same as the Towers and Subway.
