I'll give you Frogadier and maybe Dartrix, sure, but the rest all look a lot better in their final evos. A lot of people seem to love Torracat, but it's honestly my least favorite stage in its line, it just looks really fat and short and weird

If you want a GREAT example of the mid-stage being the best, look no further than the Sandile line

I think Venusaur's official artwork doesn't do it justice. It is one of the few cases that looks a lot better in its 3D model.

It's at least partially a mental thing. The second stage has limitless potential, you can imagine it to be whatever you want. The final stage lacks this. It's final. If it isn't to your liking there's nothing you can do about it.

That being said there are a lot that seem to just drop aspects between evolutions. Bayleef and Grovyle always disappointed me in this aspect.

Really all of the Starters have amazing Mid stage evolutions

the only other pokemon to have awesome mid-stages are pokemon who didn't start out with a mid-stage, but due to cross generation evolutions became mid-stage
