My parents were really simple and never really understood the concept of buying more games for game systems(or newer game systems), so I got stuck with Pokémon Red and Super Mario Land. I jumped from the gameboy my parents bought me to a PS3 I bought when I finished college.
I emulated all pokémon games since then, except for XY and SM. I can't justify buying a 3ds solely for pokémon games.
I never used the speed up feature, though.
