Beats the shit out of my VC Gold run.

Not sure why I trained my Roselia when I already had a Grass type and Sinnoh had so many other cool Pokemon.

I think you misunderstood me, you're doing it right. What I posted was one acceptable scenario where you play with an overleveled starter, of course it's not the only way to play.

Pre gen 6 exp share I barely ever used a complete team, mostly 3 mons only, maybe 4 (even then, my starter in both Y and Moon were like 15 levels higher than the rest of the team).
I do plan on making a full team for VC gen II however, and I did make at some point a full team in Fire Red:

Audibly and visbly triggered.

Play Gen IV at least, it's the best. And by that I mean play the remakes of Gold and Silver, which are basically an enhanced and refined version of Crystal.

Ever since I was first playing Red and Blue as an 7 year old, I always tried to keep my Pokemon even leveled and use whatever strategy I could understand at that age (i.e. Type coverage and status moves. Didn't really understand stats until Gen 2.)

Apparently, every other kid around me was a complete dumbass or something. Even a kid should at least be able to understand that much.

If he's using six Pokemon equally he would absolutely be underlevelled for Johto's Elite Four. Outside of Rocket Admin and Gym Leaders, both trainer and wild Pokemon barely scrape 30

This. I liked to try to give an HM to different pokemon in mu team because I liked to imagine each one of them having a special "skill" to use. I think Pelipper was the one to have the most HMs on itself ever.

Nobody says it is the easiest way, just that it is the most fun one.
Fuck, it is almost fundamentally agreed upon that rushing through with just an overleveled starter and maybe a sidekick is the easiest strategy. And before someone say "b-but BW and BW2" it applies to games with dynamic experience gain too, the mechanic isn't even close to balance it out.

I think B2 was the only case ever where I did not do this. I went on routes and trained my mons and caught ones that were helpful for the next gym.
Somehow, BW2 were so good, they gave me the motivation to actually play it how it's supposed to be played.
