It is just that you are old now and instantly know where to go and where you haven't been. Example even in the first island, Ten Carat Hill, Verdant Cavern and the bay later and Hau'oli Cemetery are all completely optional.
Also as far as HGSS is concerned, a remake, it streamlined the progression when Crystal had none of that, but is still the most overrated game in the series despite being utter garbage and the third attempt at Johto, being worst than the previous ones. Also censorship like in pic related and garbage writting in every new area, the pokeathlon and the safari zone
As much I love SM for what new things it did, the game had indeed multiple scraped content, but being a first version that is a lot better than any first version ever before. Having scrapped content doesn't disqualify what things it did well, namely innovation, in a video game series that is made fun of for how stale it is.
