Dont pick chikorita unless you want to make the game incredibly challenging. As for the team i can suggest mareep, sudowoodo and bellossom. The rest depends on your starter choice.

Yes chikorita is awesome designwise. But if you suspect it to be as dominating ingame as other starters you will be seriously disappointed because is has type disadvantage everywhere... And it learns its first strong non plant attack very late... And gen 2 games actually were infinitely harder compared to newer gens. Since OP asks for team suggestions he probably hasnt played gen 2 games yet. Thats why I tell what works good and what not... And yes the games would be kind of hard for pokemon standards if you focus to much on training chikorita.

OP here, I think I will pick: Typhlosion, Ampharos, Espeon, Gyarados, Scizor. I cannot choose the 6th Pokemon. Maybe a Grass-type would be nice?

I dont get why everyone is hyped about this games after Virtual Console release. Any advantages over playing it on Emulator or the old games (except of the fucking battery for the clock being dead on my Silver.....)

I hadn't played Gen1 and Gen2 in maaaany years. I prefer handhelds over emulators because of the simple reason that it gives me the satisfaction I want.

What emulators can't offer is the official experience and a 3ds theme. Also, code celebi is a nice touch as well. People here legitimately care for their franchise, which is why they deem it cool to own this kind of game. If you're a Slavic pirate, sure, go ahead; but don't expect your way of purchase to be the highroad.

Pick which ever starter looks best to you. Older games are easy enough that you'll be one hitting by the end of the game regardless.

actually they are, if you are underleveld and your team has a big type hole in it.

E.g. Sun Moon was really really hard for me, thanks to my obvious disadvantage against rock. (no exp share run btw.) Also I lost against lusamine, hau and I didn´t even count because of shitty solarblade bug.

Avoid Ledian, Jumpluff, Aipom, Yanma, Unown, Shuckle, Sneasel, Delibird and Smeargle.

Ariados, Bellossom, Wobbuffet, Forretress, Dunsparce, Gligar, Corsola, Hitmontop and Blissey are kinda bad too.

Everything else should be fine. Granbull, Ursaring, Lanturn Scizor, Ampharos, Espeon and Piloswine are amazing for example.

You can try Sunflora. It's slow but hits hard with Giga Drain, Petal Dance, Sludge Bomb and Growth.
