Also I like how everyone's conveniently ignoring the part where the intro for all the new games is just one big super long and super tedious tutorial that handholds you through everything before letting you go

It's not irrelevant. Most everyone on the board has seen that catching tutorial more than once in a playthrough due to Rare Candies and Masterballs alone.

I'm not denying that the new games have an overabundance of them, I'm just pointing out that your original thesis was taken down on the word 'go'.

Maybe not common practice, but it's definitely common knowledge. It's such a well-known glitch that even people who have never played the game before still know about Missingno. Which is activated by a (first-time mandatory) tutorial, thus negating OP's post that the early gen games had optional tutorials.

As for the intros, I consider anything before catching your first wild Pokemon as an "intro." Which would mean that, to me at least, Gold and Silver have the longest intros of any game in the series.

You're autistic. No one considers that the intro because that's not what the intro is.
Sun and Moon have the longest intro and it's all a glorified mandatory tutorial full of cutscenes and handholding, it takes a speedrunner 12 minutes just to get to the starter.

If I'm forced to do a number of tasks before I can truly start the game and explore on my own, it might as well be an intro:

>delivering Oak's Parcel
>getting to Mr. Pokemon's house
>the first Brendan/May battle
>getting to Rowan's lab

And so on. Every game does something like this to give the player an idea of the core mechanics of the game before they're able to customize the game to their play style.

All of those examples take no where near as long as Sun and Moon's start, and none of them are as handholdy either
I mean for fuck's sake Sun and Moon has a flagpole telling you where to go all the time, which is barely necessary when the region is so linear
