I'm guessing the user base will expand closer to launch. Pokemon will push more systems upon release date news. It will be a success but whether it will be "biggest game evarrrr" or "moderately profitable" remains to be seen.

I don't think Gen VIII is going to even break 8m because the switch is a flop.

The Switch is the lowest selling console they've ever released a mainline pokemon game on, so I figure the game will also sell the least. Also this will probably be the most expensive pokemon game to make. So it'll make the least and be the most expensive to make.

They just don't have the tech know how to make a HD game. Hell, they're barely making 3DS games playable when they're taking the lazy route to not even add stereoscopic 3D.

Nintendo is starting to notice more people are treating the Switch like a handheld since the market is almost exclusively owned my the 3ds. From what they estimate it might phase out the handheld systems since a majority of people play games through there phones instead of a device. And mainline Pokemon games have always been a game that people play on handhelds. So we might start seeing more hybrid consoles like the Switch down the road. As for Pokemon mainline games though, I only hear rumors that USUM are going to be the last main Pokemon games on the 3ds. I would not be surprised if it did. I would really like an excuse to play Mario + Rabbids.

The main reason pokemon succeded was becasue it was a cheap game ($40) on a cheap console ($100-$150).

I hope it's a spin off so they have a chance to make it interesting. Sun and Moon had the worst combination of stupid easy gameplay and spoonfed plot that killed any sense of adventure and slowed the game to a painful crawl. A shame too because I absolutely love some part of the game.
