I remember I had this literal autist in class who claimed that "only noobs use potions"

Yet he played pokemon on an emulator with speedhacks and he also used the most BS and cheap tactics on showdown (evasion, shuckle stalling, move spam), whenever he lost he said it was luck.

I have never in my life used any of the X items like X-attack. They seem like such a waste, especially in the older gens when you were usually pretty strapped for cash and they sold for a decent price. I've never purchased one, and sell them as soon as I find them.

I was like that, but I ended up keeping them and using them as a free buff when needed. Better safe than sorry. They help if you can predict protect/detect and other moves

They used to be completely worthless....
But now they apparently raise by 2?
I'm not sure because likewise, I still haven't used any ever.

I don't even buy potions anymore.
Water/soda/lemonade/milk is what I buy until E4... then just full restores.
Though going back to Gen1 and 2 with the virtual console was weird cause I actually had to buy potions and status cures....
How times change.

They're useful in speedruns since they allow you to take on certain Pokemon while being quite underleveled (which allows you to effectively avoid battling every optional trainer in the game).

I have very rarely used them in singleplayer, usually when the Pokemon doesnt have any other way to increase their stats.
