Besides if you're into smogon, starting out at the lower tiers would let you get used to a small number of pokemon and if youre into vgc the first year of a new gen is the best for new comers since the dex is constricted, so you dont have to worry about every single mon out there for optimal spreads, or you know, just inject/train some 252/252's just so you could go try.
but honestly the more you play, the more these things becomes second nature really.
