Japanese mythology does contain the Tenome, a yokai that appers as a man with no face, but eyes in his palms,so it could be a possibility in the future. That would be neat as a part of an evolution line. A cyclops that becomes a tenome that becomes Argus, the giant with eyes covering his entire body.
