How the fuck do you guys cope with the flaws in gen 1? I'm trying to play it because I never have, I only played FireRed. My first Pokemon game was Gold.
I wanted to have the "original" experience but jesus christ, the balance really ruins it for me.
Should I bother and stick it out? Does it become less noticeable down the line? Or will I not enjoy it if I don't have nostalgia for it.

You clearly haven't been on this board for long, or seen the reactions to the flaws with Gen 1 list. There's a metric fuckton of people who flip their shit when anyone implies Gen 1 wasn't absolutely perfect, and it's especially bad right now because of the VC releases.

Just take it as it is. An old game with zero balance.
Have some broken mons to burst through the game so you can effectively discover it, and be done with it forever.

Only people who played it when it came out can enjoy it, and even then, I still think the game is not that good, i'm just a huge sucker for RPGs, especially old ones.

Since most people were young kids when Gen 1 came out, and it was the only Pokemon gen at that time, they didn't care. You caught and raised cool monsters to fight one another, things like mechanics outside the rock-paper-scissors types weren't important. It's looking back when we're on generation 7 that you realize how lacking they truly are.

If you don't like them, drop them. FRLG were improvements in every way. I played my first gen 1 game, Yellow, a few years back already an adult just so I can say I beat it. There's nothing in them worth playing over the superior remakes, especially if you don't have nostalgia pampering you.

I found some of the bugs enjoyable.
It was entertaining to complete the game, do the missingno glitch, and buff my team up to level 100 before transferring them to bank.
Naturally it was more fun when you were a kid who is amazed by anything, but it still holds up relatively well since Pokemon hasn't changed all that much.

It's a difference experience. I play all the gens pretty often, so I can slip into that gen's mindset of what's good, what movesets are like and what cool things you can do in the games. Gen 1 is pretty simple and a little broken, but the graphics and soundtrack are comfy af, the colours and sprites are weird and wacky and it's fun to play cause mechanics are just that little bit different from the rest of the series. Not necessarily better, but different.

XY started the resurgence via being the first game to use models instead of sprites. Got the genwunners interested again.

SHould have just stuck with remakes. Something about gen 1's music/atmosphere feels magical, which I'm sure is nostalgia which you wouldn't have.

Even beyond the glitches there's a ton of quality of life improvements over the years. Box switching, running shoes, unlimited bag space, etc.

My first game was Silver, but I had wanted to play the Gen I games as a kid. I later got FireRed, but I only really played through Red last year, and it's completely fine as a single-player experience. Of course it's a heavily-flawed game if you look into the nitty-gritty of it, but it nails what made Pokémon so addictive to begin with.

>Evolve Pokémon and fill the Pokédex
I had more fun with Red than I did with Sun. One felt like a journey while the other was an on rails predetermined experience.

Just power through, like all pre-SM games. Seriously, after being able to grind a freshly hatched mon on Poni Island from level 1 to level 25 with ONE battle and an easy-to-get Lucky Egg, because of 10,000+ initial experience and then 4-5,000 per subsequent battle, post-game grinding in all previous gens feels cripplingly slow now.

Most of it nowadays is nostalgiafagging even if most anons will deny it.
