What if in the next gen gamefreak decides to forgo the water-fire-grass starter triangle and go for a new one. What you do you guys think would be the best?

I'd like to see something like the Sinnoh starters again though. Each one evolves to counter the one it's supposed to be weak to (albeit executed better)

There's no other trio that works. Immunities or lack of resists would mess up the tutorial aspect.

I object to this, first off Wartortle can't be steel, steel didn't exist in gen 1, along with that a water dragon starter in gen 1 would have been ridiculous. It's only weakness is dragon and guess what, there were no dragon type moves in gen 1.

Also giving a starter no weakness is probably the worst idea ever.

It tanks normal-types like a champ, which makes it invaluable at the start of the game. Also if it's fast then it has a STAB move that can tear through a lot of Pokemon.

I once doodled basically this for a Ground/Rock/Ice trio, lemme see if I can find the pic. They had secondary types of Fighting/Dark/Psychic respectively as I recall.
