Could we please have a thread for discuss how bad the 3DS' models are when comparing to one decade ago home-console games?
Moves animations are really better but sometimes looking to Gen V sprites and nowadays models I feel like 70% of Gen III-V looks shit on 3DS era.

The 3D models in Colosseum/XD/Revolution were terrible because they were ripped straight out of Stadium 1 and 2. The gen 3/4 model were ok at the time, but nothing special. Also that Mamoswine models is vomit inducing because of how ugly the lighting is in that game.

OP is mistaking the sizes of the models in-fame with the quality of the models. The sizes proportion comparing to these games are so bad that really pass the impression that the models are not good. If you think that the models looks great on XYORASSM you're also a retard tho

They were better than the 3DS, yeah, they were, but some legendaries like Groudon and Rayquaza used to be as big as Tyranitar or Dragonite. It was not that perfect tho

add movements for the models. a claw swipe for claw attacks, punching and kicking movements, tackle movements, blasting movements (or things that look like spellcasting idk) tail whipping movements for tail based attacks, defensive sort of movements for defense or support moves, etc. i know gamefreak will never do this because they wont put up the effort, but having 3d models with a variety of ways to move (more than they have now) would vastly improve them

Just because the one on the right looks better visually doesn't mean it's a different model. FFS, look at Pokemon Go and tell me that they're different models compared to the 3DS. You'll get BTFO faster than a nigger getting shot.

The low resolution of the 3DS screen makes it hard to see details in a lot of models, so they put a black outline around it.
It also helps towards the more cartoony art-direction of the game and I like them.
They're also used in a bunch of other 3DS games, for pretty much the same reasons. Smash is an example, but I'm sure there are others.

Most of the issues are not the models but the lighting, textures, and poses/animation.

-XY and beyond models have no quirks/life in their idle poses. They have seperate attack animations that don't flow in/out of the idle pose.
-All of the textures are desaturated and flat, there is nothing to imply the material/skin of the Pokemon (while many don't like Pokken style it is a step in the right direction imo)
-Lighting/shadows are boring and generally non-existent, the environment has little to no effect on how the Pokemon look; the Pokemon are pre-lit in a void

The only thing bad about the new models is that theyre cell shaded dull and some mons have shit animation or are positioned awkwardly (some pokes are flying but look better on the ground-charizard and salamence) n64 and previous models at least had some nice shading texture and personality in their animations

Strictly speaking they're the best 3D models we've ever had for a Pokemon game Pokken aside. The problem arises with the animation and sometimes the texture.

Jesus man, this thread is full of retards. The 3DS models are the best models we've gotten yet, with maybe Pokken being the sole exception. They even have accurate size information, but they're downscaled on the 3DS because it has a 240p screen. The 3DS models are used in Ga'Ole, and they're also used for assist Pokemon in Pokken, although they have upgraded textures in Pokken. The problem with the way they look in the 3DS games is the lighting, animations and textures.

Somewhat yes. Edgetwo also has a less shit design than mewtwo X but that is a totally different gripe. I like the models more in Pokken even if they fucked up every shiny. The prerender scenes really do sell the game.
